Steven Paterson, or as we knew him “Stevie P”, was the best of men and team mates who I had the pleasure to take the hockey field and badminton court with. We met nearly 34 years ago at university and became close friends. Steve played hard on the hockey pitch and in the bar afterwards, always generous and gracious unless it was Quarters - when he was ruthless. Steve was an usher at my wedding and Godfather to my eldest daughter, Eloïse. We kept in touch over the years, exchanging news by letter. My only complaint being Steve’s handwriting verged on the illegible! Take a bow Stevie P, you have left the hockey field for the final time. No substitutions - they would never fill your kickers. God rest big man... we will miss you terribly...
