You Were Always There

Steve, It’s so hard to believe you’re no longer with us!
When we were growing up you just always seemed to be around! So much so, we adopted you (unofficially) as one of our own! I know you had your own family but you were very much a part of ours too!
You were always happy to lend a hand when there was work to be done! Wee Jimmy’s finger was never quite the same after you dropped that slab on it!
You helped Graeme & I decorate our flat so many times too! Payment was often in the form of bacon rolls & soup at the greasy spoon on Albert Street.
Above all, you were always so full of fun & we had lots of giggles over the years!
I particularly remember the nights when I came out to Dalkeith to meet you & James at the Old Meal. It was a long walk back up that hill to Mayfield but there was much fun & merriment, as well as the inevitable stop at the Happy Date Chinese takeaway for fuel to get us up the final stretch!
One night we got stopped by the police! Fortunately we weren’t in trouble, it was a mate of yours who was driving the dog van & he offered us a lift! Unfortunately, one of the dogs had puked! It was a mixed blessing!
Graeme & I always loved having you to stay with us when you came up to Scotland & used our place as ‘base camp’. Sometimes you came alone & sometimes you filled our flat with your other friends who became our friends too! Those were such happy times!
We’re going to miss you my surrogate brother! Xx
